What Inspired Me to Write My Book

Glenn Gould has been with me all of my life. My grandmother had a passion for classical music and started me on the piano when I was five years old. So Glenn Gould was a household name. I believe that as well as Glenn Gould being a phenomenal technical pianist, he was unconventional and inspiring. My grandmother always revered the creative part of music, so she was a loyal follower of Glenn Gould and his outstanding and unique musical interpretations. I heard his name from five years of age on. Of course, we lived north of Toronto, so it was wonderful being in the same city. Once Glenn Gould started his documentaries, he was in our living room on a constant basis. As time went on, I found Glenn Gould an inspiration because he followed his own path; his music touched my mind and heart. Whenever I needed some solace or just joy, Glenn Gould's music was there. His personal courage and professional path intrigued me. I started reading more about him and became fascinated with his films. I just loved watching him play the piano. One day, as I listening to his music, I started to write just short impressions, feelings, and ideas, and before I knew it, it was forming into larger sketches. I then decided that I might turn these sketches into a book for young readers. I thought his life could motivate and inspire children to follow their dreams, to celebrate their individuality and to take courage in their own journey. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of writing this book because I was so fond of my subject.
